This Granato (garnet) Delecta with cultivated amber mount
is a true rarity - a Billiard! As we've mentioned before, the
billiard
and its derivates (Canadian, Lovat, Pot, etc.) along with bulldogs
are the most difficult pipes to make with true straight grain.
This is because the curved sides of the bowl do not follow the
usual growing pattern of briar root, so Billiards will often have
excellent grain over a portion of the bowl, and then see it fall
away
on the other sides. Since Gem Series Billiards never last long,
we'll be saying, "bye bye" to this one before long.
